Pirate Cutlass

Many a bloody-handed pirate of the 17th century clambered over the side of a gold laden galleon armed with a cutlass such as this. All kinds of weapons found their way onto pirate ships, as long as they were good weapons. This plug bayonet served a double role. The antiqued brass parts are in the form of angels and the grip is turned hardwood. The blade has a cut-out cross and comes to a keen point. Includes sheath that will fit up to a 4" belt. Scimitar

Scimitar
500822

Windlass Steelcrafts®

The original scimitar was called a shamshir, (which meant "lion's tail") and had a deeply curved blade that was almost a half circle. Developed in Persia, this type of blade was effective for drawcuts, but other than that, of limited utility. This caused the blade to shift its shape into a more useful version, which we have chosen to copy. Blade is quite effective, being able to drawcut as well as slash, and the point is quite useful in the "hooking" thrust often used. Made from high carbon steel by Windlass Steelcrafts®. Grip is wood, and the guard and scabbard furniture are steel. Complete with scabbard. A beautiful and romantic sword. Copied from the Hank Reinhardt collection. Can be sharpened for additional fee.

Scottish Cutlass

Scottish Cutlass
500920

Windlass Steelcrafts®

The crashing of waves, the roar of cannons, the shout of sea roques through the foreboding mist - this new cutlass can't help but unleash adventurous images. Scottish born Capt. William Kidd, we're sure, would have favored this sword. As seen in period art, the Scottish Basket-Hilt was at times married to a cutlass blade (this one has a double edge for the first 9" of the blade). The basket itself provided excellent hand protection and could deliver a hard blow in the crowded melee that ensued onboard. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts®. Includes scabbard. $3.00 additonal Shipping & Handling charge with item. Can be sharpened for additional fee.

Brass Basket - Hilt Claymore

Circa 1700
This Scottish basket-hilt Claymore is the equal to any raised by clansmen as they overran the English at the Battle of Falkirk on Jan. 17th, 1746. The pierced basket-hilt is a faithful reproduction of one found on the Culloden Moor. The fully tempered high carbon steel blade is of the typical fullered, double-edge, broadsword pattern of the 1740’s. The basket also has a rich red cloth liner and a scabbard is included for this great price. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts®. Can be sharpened for additional fee.

Basket Hilt Broadsword

 Scottish Basket Hilt Broadsword

Although Basket-Hilt swords appeared throughout Britain from the mid-sixteenth century on, their association with the seventeenth and eighteenth century Scottish highlander has become legendary.

Our Basket-Hilt Broadsword, replicated from an original in the collection of the Royal Armories in England, carries a typical Glasgow-style hilt from the mid-18th century. It is likely that the blade of the original sword, marked “Andrea Ferara”, was made in Germany a century earlier and re-hilted as basket designs were refined.

The sword is available in both polished and antiqued finishes. Both hilts are crafted from stainless steel, to minimize maintenance, that of the SH2002 being polished while the SH2002N “antiqued” version has a museum-quality patina. The high-carbon blade of the SH2002N is also lightly “antiqued” to promote authenticity. The grips of the broadswords are covered with wire-wrapped genuine rayskin and the basket liners are crafted in fabric-covered leather. The scabbards are leather-covered, black in the case of the SH2002 and brown for the SH2002N.

Scottish Basket Hilt Backsword

SH2003 -- Scottish Basket Hilt Backsword

Early highland swords almost invariably carried the double-edged “broadsword” blade, but by the time of the Battle of Culloden (1746) the single-edged “backsword” was at least equal in popularity.

Our Basket-Hilt Backsword, replicated from an original in the collection of the Royal Armouries in England that dates from about 1760, has an unusual basket with twin engraved “horned beastie” plaques and a blade with twin fullers running most of its length. The blade is German in origin, but the hilt and blade are contemporary. The sword is available in both polished and antiqued finishes. Both hilts are crafted from stainless steel, to minimize maintenance, that of the SH2003 being polished while the SH2003N “antiqued” version has a museum-quality patina. The high-carbon blade of the SH2003N is also lightly “antiqued” to promote authenticity. The grips of the backswords are covered with wire-wrapped genuine rayskin and the basket liners are crafted in fabric-covered leather. The scabbards are leather-covered, black in the case of the SH2003 and brown for the SH2003N.

Mortuary Hilt Sword

SH2004 -- Mortuary Hilt Sword

Replicated from an original in the collection of the Royal Armouries in England, our Mortuary Hilt Sword is a classic example of a cavalry or dragoon officer’s sword of the 17th century English Civil War period. Deriving its name from the style of sword which memorialized King Charles I, who was executed in 1649, The Mortuary Hilt Sword’s steel basket is decorated with scrolled foliage while an engraved head of Charles I appears on the pommel. The lozenge-section double-edged blade is partially fullered and bears the swordmaker’s mark “1414”, the derivation of which has been lost in time. The leather handle wrap terminates in silver wire “Turks Head” knots. The sword, like the original, is beautifully balanced.

The sword is available in both polished and antiqued finishes. Both hilts are crafted from stainless steel, to minimize maintenance, that of the SH2004 being polished while the SH2004N “antiqued” version has a museum-quality patina. The high-carbon blade of the SH2004N is also lightly “antiqued” to promote authenticity. The grips of the mortuary-hilt are covered with leather. The scabbards are leather-covered, black in the case of the SH2004 and brown for the SH2004N.

Cromwell Sword

SH1049 -- Cromwell Sword

Oliver Cromwell (1599 – 1658) was a powerful figure in English history during and after the English Civil War, when he rose from the rank of Captain of Horse to Lord Protector of England. His sword, said to have been carried at the battle of Drogheda in 1649, has been remarkably well preserved and features in the collection of the Royal Armouries in Leeds, England, where it is displayed in the permanent collection. Our Cromwell Sword is an accurate replica of the original “mortuary” hilt style and features a blackened guard decorated in a gold foliage pattern with a wire-wound sharkskin grip. As the original sword now lacks a scabbard , we have provided a design typical of the period. This piece of English history is a must for the ECW collector and re-enactor.

Italian Falchion

The Italian Falchion was a weapon used in battle more than most people realize. Considered a heavy, single edged weapon designed for heavy chopping, it has an ancient history that stretches back to the Bronze Age. During the Renaissance its form became a little more elaborate, but its functionality remained the same. This was a heavy battle sword designed to oppose the combinations of plate and mail that were popular. The blade could shear mail with ease, and dent or crush lighter weight plate. We have copied a sword in the Florence Museum dating from about the first quarter of the 16th century. The blade is high carbon steel. The guard and the pommel are steel, while the grip is polished hardwood. The scabbard mounts are also steel. A beautiful and impressive sword. Blade 26" Long, 1 3/4" wide, Weight 3 1/4 lbs.

Comes with black leather scabbard with steel mounts. Thius attractive sword can be seen in the book "Swords and Blades of the American Revolution" by O.C. Newmann. Rapiers

Deschaux Rapier

Circa 1590
With its graceful, artistic lines, the rapier has always been a romantic symbol of the Renaissance. The reality is that the rapier is a very deadly hand-to-hand combat weapon, perfectly suited for the swift moves of the duelists of the day. Many hilt forms were tried early on like this three ringed swept hilt. The grip is bone, with a wire wrapping, making for a very secure grip. This is a light, fast and deadly sword with a classical design. Coordinating main gauche available. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts®. Includes scabbard.

Left Hand Dagger

Circa 1590
The left hand dagger, or “Ring Hilt” dagger, was employed in the art of rapier and dagger swordplay. It was often worn at the back tilting to the left for easy access. This offering matches nicely with our three ringed Deschaux rapier. The parts are steel and the grip is bone wrapped in wire for a good grasp. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts®. Includes scabbard.

Florentine Rapier & Dagger

The Italians were reportedly the first to form the school of fighting with a rapier and dagger and it is still called the “Florentine” style. Be that as it may, it was used by all European countries and thought to be the most difficult and fluid form of dueling. This is certainly a handsome rapier; the shells of the guards have been taken to the literal sense. The quillions are long for added protection and the entire hilt has been given a beautiful aged look. The blades are from well tempered high carbon steel. Well-balanced. Scabbards are included. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts®.

The Musketeers Rapier & Main Gauche

Circa 1590
The musket, though the prime weapon of the French Musketeers, was a cumbersome firearm, both to load and fire. A good rapier was a necessary second weapon. Our Musketeer rapier is fashioned after those circa 1590. The basket hilt is ambidextrous and a very effective mix of both the cup-hilt and swept-hilt styles. The grip is wood wrapped with twisted wire and the parts of the hilt are plated with gleaming nickel silver. Can be sharpened for additional fee. Matching main gauche available.
